Over the last week I have been so fascinated by the Artemis II mission. While I have always been into space, I feel like this mission has been a tipping point for me in many ways. In our house, I’ve had every TV on the NASA official broadcast, I’ve gone to sleep to the mission briefings, and been doing a deeper dive into Artemis III and IV which sound absolutely incredible.

If you don’t know about the goals of the Artemis III and IV mission, here’s a quick overview. High-level, the shift moving forward with the Artemis missions is building a base on the moon, which is the next step in our journey to Mars.

Artemis III: the goal with this mission is a big one - land astronauts on the moon for the first time since the Apollo missions. Once on the moon, the focus will be on studying the lunar south pole. Scientists think there’s a good chance they’ll find water in ice form there, which will be important for future missions since water is so darn important.

Artemis IV: things get even more interesting here, this is the first mission where we’ll actually start building the Lunar Gateway Space station which will orbit around the moon. Additionally, astronauts will continue to explore the south pole of the moon and continue the research done by the Artemis III crew.

So yeah, we’re going to have a space station orbiting the moon, and a base on the moon, and sooner than I think many people think. Artemis III is planned for mid-2027, and Artemis IV for 2028, it’s all happening fast.

There have been so many incredible photos shared throughout the Artemis II journey, my absolute favorite is the one I shared as the main image for this issue of my newsletter. And another favorite is this one, with a view of the moon from inside the Orion spacecraft.

If you want to check out more photos from the mission, don’t be fooled by all the random AI-generated stuff going around, go to the source. Here’s the link:

Okay, so I know this is a tangent from my normal focus but it’s well worth the shift for this week, and you can probably expect me to talk about space more since it’s something I’m passionate about, and this is Morgan.xyz, so it really is just a newsletter about stuff I’m interested in.

Since I have no sponsors, and no subscription fees, I have the freedom to just write about whatever the heck I want to, and that’s what I’m doing!

That being said, I did find some really interesting stuff on X over the last few weeks, and I wanted to share what’s peaking my curiosity, with all of you. I don’t have time to put together summaries of each, so I’m just sharing the topic and link, and you can jam from there. Enjoy!

Okay, that’s it for this week. Tonight at around 5pm PST/8pm EST, the Artemis II crew should splash down off the coast of San Diego. I will be thinking of them all day, here’s to their safety and the future of the Artemis missions 🙏
